How To Reheat Fries In A Microwave

No one can deny the fact that French fries are amazing. They are arguably one of the most loved foods worldwide. Whether you buy them from a fast food joint or make them fresh at home, French fries always taste good. Whenever you have day-old fries, you can easily reheat them in a microwave.

Reheating fries in a microwave is a great and fast way to enjoy your meal any time of the day. There are three ways to reheat fries in a microwave. You can use oil, a crisping tray, or a paper towel.

Reheating fries in a microwave can be tricky, and you can end up with unwanted results. This article will show you the best step-by-step methods to reheating fries in a microwave.

How to Reheat Fries in a Microwave Using Oil

Using oil is the most convenient way to reheat fries in a microwave. However, you might not get the results you require depending on the fries. Thicker fries are less likely to remain crispy because of the excess moisture.

The point of the oil is to keep the exterior of the fries crispy as steam escapes from them. Also, as the oil heats up, it will make the outer layer of the fries crispier.

To reheat fries in a microwave using oil:

  1. Take the fries out of the refrigerator and let them sit for 15 minutes. Any longer than 15 minutes might leave you with unwanted results when reheating.
  2. Mix the fries and one or two tablespoons of oil in a bowl. Ensure all the fries are properly coted. Depending on the number of fries you want to reheat, you can add more oil.
  3. Lay your fries out on a microwave-safe plate. Ensure not to stack them on each other so that they can heat evenly and as crispy as possible. If you have a large number of fries, you can reheat them in batches.
  4. If you have a splatter guard with ventilation, you can use it to cover the plate. If not, leave it as is.
  5. Set your microwave to 75% power, and heat your fries for five minutes. Be sure to move the fries around about halfway through the heating.
  6. Once your fries are hot enough, you can salt and leave them uncovered for about two minutes.
  7. Serve your delicious fries with ketchup or any other condiment.

How to Reheat Fries in a Microwave Using a Crisping Tray

To use this method, you need a crisping tray. If you do not have one, you should consider other methods in this article.

A crisping tray works similar to a grill; the base of the crisping pan absorbs heat and sends it to the food. It also comes with a lid that traps and evenly distributes heat.

The best thing about a crisping tray is that you can use it to both reheat fries and create a fresh batch.

A crisping tray is not hard to use, even for a first-timer. All you have to do is follow these steps. Keep in mind that the time you require to reheat your fries differs depending on your microwave’s power.

Here is how to reheat fries in a microwave using a crisping tray:

  1. Allow your fries to sit for 15 minutes after taking them out of the fridge.
  2. Next, combine the fries and one or two tablespoons of oil in a bowl and coat them lightly. Use as much oil as you need, depending on the number of fries.
  3. Lay the fries on your crisping tray and spread them out evenly. Do not force the fries onto the grill; heat them in batches if you have too many.
  4. Place the tray’s lid on the fries and put them in a microwave. However, if you do not have a lid, you can use a paper towel.
  5. Set the microwave to full power.
  6. Microwave the fries for 10 minutes, tossing the fries around after about 5 minutes. Monitor the outer layer of the fries till you get the texture you require. You can leave the fries for two to three minutes if you are not happy after 10 minutes.
  7. When your fries are ready, salt them, and serve.

How to Reheat Fries in a Microwave Using Paper Towel

Using this method, the plan is to let the paper towel absorb moisture before it affects the exterior of the fries. You use oil with this method, but the paper towel is an extra step against steam.

Here is how to reheat fries in a microwave using a paper towel:

  1. Take the fries out of the refrigerator and onto the counter for 15 minutes.
  2. Coat your fries with one to two tablespoons of oil in a bowl. You can add oil based on the number of fries you have.
  3. Place three paper towels on your microwave-safe plate, ensuring one stays in the center of the plate and the others fall over the sides of the plate
  4. Spread the fries on the dish, ensuring you don’t overfill the plate. You can heat your fries in batches.
  5. Wrap your fries with the paper towels that are draping over the sides.
  6. Place the plate in the microwave.
  7. Set the microwave to full power and heat the fries for 5 minutes.
  8. As soon as the 5 minutes are up, remove the paper towels, and throw them away.
  9. Transfer the fries to another plate, salt them, and enjoy.
